Setting up electricity for a new home is usually one of the more anxiety-inducing parts of moving. The good news: in most cases, it's a 10-minute online process if you know what to do.
What you'll need
Your new address, move-in date, government-issued ID, and ideally a recent bill from your last home (helps with deposit waivers).
Same-day connection vs scheduled activation
If the previous resident has cancelled service, you typically can't get same-day activation — utilities schedule meter readings between accounts. Plan ahead by 2-3 business days.
Avoiding security deposits
Most utilities waive the deposit if you can show 12 months of on-time bill history from a previous address. Bring that bill to the activation call.
